Hi there 👋 ! I’m Amina, a Machine Learning Engineer currently working with the literature service team at EMBL-EBI .
My educational background includes a Master’s in Machine Intelligence from the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences/Machine Intelligence AIMS/AMMI, fully funded by Facebook(Meta) and Google. I was one of 40 students chosen from over 7000 applicants across Africa.
I also have a degree in Biomedical Engineering earned from the University of Lagos in Nigeria 🇳🇬.
Previously, I worked as a research intern at Idiap Research Institute in Martigny, Switzerland 🇨🇭 , supervised by Phil Garner. I was also a summer research intern at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne(EPFL), a public research university located in Lausanne, Switzerland🇨🇭. There, I worked under the supervision of Prof Martin Jaggi and Dr Mary-Anne Hartley in the MLO | iGH lab.
Research Interests:
My research interests lie at the intersection of my two degrees in Machine Intelligence and Biomedical Engineering, with a focus on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in healthcare, low-resource use-cases. My goal is to contribute to the advancement of healthcare through the integration of cutting-edge technologies, addressing challenges in diagnostics, therapy, and medical imaging. Specifically, I am keenly interested in exploring the following areas:
- Applications of Large Language Models
- Speech and Audio Processing for Disease Diagnosis and Rehabilitation Therapy
- Medical Image Analysis utilizing advanced state-of-the-art Computer Vision methods
